The most common issues with these
internal PCI modems are related to the Drivers. This modem is a
'Win modem' - meaning the firmware and drivers are loaded onto
the modem when the operating system is booted up, this makes it
very easy to perform firmware upgrades to this modem. It also
means that simply by changing the driver version that is being
used you can sort out most technical problems including (but not
limited to):
-
Drop outs
-
Slow connection speeds
-
Slow download speeds
-
General errors
The current driver version for
this modem is
V 8.18. This version (along
with an earlier version V 6.00) can be downloaded from
our website / or
Netcomm Site , once you have downloaded this file
please follow these instructions for the best result:
1. Save the attached driver file
to your hard drive somewhere where you will remember it. I.E.
under 'My Documents'
2. Remove the modem from your
system, by going to [start' 'settings] / [control panel] /
[modems] then select the IN5692 (it will be listed as either an
IN5692 or Lucent LT Win modem) and click on 'Remove'
3. Once the modem has been
removed you will need to run a program called LTRemove.exe to
remove any driver files that may still be in the system, to run
this file simply do a search for 'LTRemove.exe' (by going to
'start' 'find' 'files or folders' then enter LTRemove in the
'Named' section and '[C:]\Windows' in the 'look in' field), once
you find this file, simply double click on it to run it. This
program will remove all files that relate to this modem.
4. DO NOT Reboot your PC once
this process has been completed.
5. Removing the modem files:
-
Go to Tools in Windows
Explorer, go to Folder options and then View, then make sure
that the Hidden files are shown, then OK all the way out.
-
Click on 'Start' then 'Find
Files or Folders'
-
Look for all files named '
*.INF ' containing text 'NetComm'
-
Remove any files that relate
to the modem (only the ones in the INF folder)
Some
files that are found need to be kept -
ONLY REMOVE THE FILES THAT RELATE TO NETCOMM
LIMITED.
- Repeat the above process
but containing text 'Lucent'
6. Restart your PC, once the PC
has been re-started it will detect the modem and try to install
drivers for it, at this point you will need to press ‘CANCEL’,
as we do not wish to install the modem in this method.
7. Once Windows has finished
loading, simply locate and run the file that you saved in step
1.
8. Once this file has been run
the PC will need to be re started.
9. When Windows has been
restarted the modem is then ready to use with the new drivers.
